I agree that the most difficult time in transitioning IS informing your family. But what I have noticed is, even thought I have transition late in life, that aspect of (comming out) to your family has not even changed regardless of your age catagory. Here I am, at the age of 50 + yrs.of age, and telling my Sister and Brothers 5 years ago, that I was Trans s----l, was frightning to me. Knowing all too well, that during my childhood and young adulthood I was different but could not understand or even think of who to go see, for such a thing. And yet, some how in the back of my mind, I knew, they knew something was going on. And not to mention, comming from a strick Roman Catholic Family AND living in a Coal Town too... Surely kid's, you can figure-out the mix of this soup bruing in my life at that time. wooo~! being dis-owned,
locked -up! and put more like it . But, my parients were aready passed away, when I took action on my Transition. And telling my older Sister and Brothers, was almost like (telling ) my parients. The most difficult part of Transitioning for me was, Faceing the Truth, about myself, and excepting it. making Peace with myself as you would.
And sheding all the fears and uncertinity of whats in-store for me as a Transwoman in the world. Having the courage to step-out in that hostal-world we live in,and say: "Here I'am, I'm not ashamed of who I am" anymore. I would say, that Was, the most difficult time in Transitioning.
Sincerely, LindaMarie

I too have to agree that telling the family was the hardest, and I went about doing so i a rather unorthodox manner. I had a profile on myspace with pics loaded and my youngest sister wanted to go take a look at it and so I felt rather then have this hit the family grape vine, I should tell them all. I felt it would stop any mis information and keep things where I would have some control. What a joke that was. At first my family did offer to support me in this and when they finally realized that it was for real they have withdrawn their support and even become some what hostile toward me trying to find ways in which they think they can hurt me into giving up trying to be me.
