Top surgery before homonens or????

hi, I really want to start top surgery and homones as soon as posible.
however I been a bit into 2 minds what I should take first.

personally I feel like having top surgery first and then T later but most place demand that you have homones first... but I never figure out why and never found the answer..

is there a special reason why it would be bad/worse
to take T after a top surgery insted of top surgery after T..
or dosent it really matter?

This is an interesting question. While transitioning I had never realized there was an option to not do T first since that is was every place required.

Generally people start with hormones as it changes the body to a male appearance - facial hair, fat distribution, muscle development, etc. For some, I think it is a cost factor. Getting started with hormones is a way to begin the transition while people save up for the more costly surgery.

This site has some good information about the pros and cons of choosing either hormones or surgery first.

`I never heard anything about why hormones are supposed to be first so I can't really help you. Personally though, I'd like to have hormones first just because I feel like hormones do the bigger physical change and I'm not big chested so even now just a t-shirt covers everything. I'm also hoping to be starting hormones and top surgery soon so I thought your question would help me out as well. Haha.

`If you take T first, it helps the surgeons decide how much to remove during surgery since T does redistribute fat and add muscle. It especially helps them gage how much skin to remove and where to cut during a double incision surgery. I can't remember where I read this, but I personally highly recommend doing T first anyway. I'm glad I did a year of T before surgery because I hear that nipple graphs may go wayward if you get the surgery first and your chest muscles get a lot bigger or your shoulders widen dramatically like mine did. I don't know if that is true, but I wouldn't want to risk it.

I also heard T is recomended first but when I saw a doctor who wrotted that you could go on having surgery without T I started to wonder why it was so important to have T first and then top surgery after.. and never tend to get a answer.

`I'm pre-op but I have an appointment to get my surgery in January. I opted to do this before taking T because I would feel very awkward as a male with DD breasts, so while I understand that smaller-chested guys might be fine taking T first, it's also perfectly ok to not want to have a beard and breasts at the same time.

I am going with Dr. Brownstein myself, and he doesn't require T to be taken first. I think he used to but he admitted during my consultation that it's becoming more and more common to have the surgery first, especially for larger chested people (again, because even binders don't really help hide anything when you're of a certain size).

I would be careful though. It was highly recommended to me that I not begin T and then have the surgery while still adjusting to the hormone changes (another reason I'm going the surgery first). Surgery is a big deal and very emotional already, and after discussing it with my therapist (who's wonderful and very knowledgable and experienced with trans individuals) I agreed that I don't want to make such big changes simultaneously, when both can affect your emotional status in rather unpredictable ways anyway.

That being said, I haven't been able to find post-op no-T photos of chests, which is something I'm really interested in looking at to see the differences in the body shapes when it's not changed by the T (since most of the pictures on places like Transbucket are of guys who have the surgery and have been taking T as well).

I had somehow the same worried as well, even thought my cheast is pretty small (small B) it still a mess to hide, and I feel like fighting every morning to make it look natural and still be more or less as confortable as it can be..

`In my opinion, I think if you're sure you want to take T that it's best to start that first. It produces a lot of changes in the body and because of that many guys might see a better outcome. Also, I know this is not the case with most but, if someone changed their mind about transitioning it's easier to get off hormones, some of the changes you've experienced will go away. Removal of breast tissue is permanent. When i was researching Dr.s for my surgery, I had started emailing with a butch that wasn't on T and had no plans to transition but was going to Dr Raphael in Plano, TX for top surgery. She had her chest done a few weeks before I did (also with DR Raphael) and it looked great. I had to have a letter, not sure what she had to have in order to get hers done. I was also very large chested, binding was horrible and the freedom I felt after my surgery was incredible but personally I'm good with having had started T a year before surgery.

`hey dude... i had top surgery first for the same reasons that all who have a larger chest. when you start T, emotions will be running amok and for me i didnt want to look in the mirror with facial hair and DDs... btw~i transitioned 15 yrs ago...
