Would any FtMs, or even if you just like to pass as male without identifying as trans, be willing to share some tips on male vocalization? I figure this is the appropriate place to post this topic, since for FtMs our vocal changes are affected more by hormones than any kind of surgery, but some of us don't go on hormones, and some of us who do would like more of an effect. If this thread gets moved elsewhere, that's totally cool.

So does anyone have any explanations of what they do, how it feels, so we know we're doing it correctly, how not to strain the larynx, etc.? I know I'd appreciate anything offered.

Thanks!

Ry

This is a vocal exercise called booming your voice. The actual training sounds really stupid but it does work.
I have also heard that going on T thickens your vocal chords which lowers your voice, but this is the totally natural way to do it, I suppose.

I came out to everyone I know as a freshman in highschool, but I was not shouting it off the rooftops. Sadly, the only thing I could do for my voice was not talk. It was always a dead give away. It's really hard to drop your voice and make it natural.

My best advice is to find an understanding person (who will keep the teasing to a minimum) and practice. A lot.

I started T last year, and it dropped my voice an octave or two. It actually happened within a month...

Hope you work it out!

`I normally keep my voice as deep as I can, but I can slip at times. So thanks for this post, I am definitely going to check into this 'booming your voice' technique.

I used to try everything to get my voice lower, and it was relatively low before starting T. Nothing ever really worked. If you don't want to do hormones, you may just have to deal with a high voice. There is also the option of going on hormones for just a few months, until your voice lowers, and then stopping. Your voice might go back up just a bit, but the changes to the vocal cords are for the most part permanent.
